Lagom is on a mission
Lagom is a lightweight and secure payment system for the web. It allows content-editors to monetize their content easily, working alongside any currently existing business model.
Lagom aims at implementing online a simple payment model that we already use in our everyday lives, such as buying a newspaper or magazine, or paying to watch a movie at the theater. And for this, we need the payment process to be as easy as tapping your phone or card to pay. With no further hurdles, no registration required, no password or email confirmation.
Small online payments are more complicated than they need to be. Users want to make one-time payments to access content without committing to subscriptions or even creating accounts, but current options do not make that easy.
Two online content financing models currently exist, advertising and subscription.
These two models present drawbacks: advertising provides fluctuating revenue and can be intrusive, and subscription models lack flexibility.
With Lagom, we want to introduce a new, simpler payment model that can be used to purchase any online content in a single click, whether it is a single article, today’s edition, a video, or more generally any web content or service.
How does it work?
Lagom works by providing a payment link. When users click on the link, they are redirected to the Lagom payment page, where they pay to access the content in one click.
Users are then redirected on the editor’s website, that will provide the full content page. The entire process takes less than one second.
We provide a novel lightweight and state-less payment solution, that can be used without needing a database. Have a look at our integration models documentation page to learn more. Multiple integration examples are also provided to help content-editors with integration on their platform.
Our demo website provides a fully functional example of Lagom in action using, a news website as an example.
Non profit
We want to operate Lagom as a non-profit, as we believe that this model is the best way to ensure that Lagom becomes a trusted and reliable part of the web ecosystem. The transparency of this model will help us build a relationship based on long-term trust with both end-users and content-editors.
Being a non-profit also means that we will take a fee as low as possible on each transaction in order to operate. Lagom means “just the right amount” in Swedish, and this is our driving philosophy.
Who are we
We are a small Berlin based team, and we are passionate about the web and its ecosystem. Our backgrounds are diverse, encompassing business, computer security, and engineering. We are excited to see how Lagom will be used, and we are looking forward to seeing how it will evolve.
